I shall not linger to long on the two-part blog of this great episode and there is much material to dissect. So, let's delve into the emotion-ridden 'Failsafe'.

There is an ambitious opening as many members of the Justice League are killed from a faceless and nameless alien force. Such members include the likes of: Captain Marvel, both Hal Jordan and Jon Stewart, Batman and Superman. Zatara asks Red Tornado to join him with the rest of the League that remains. While given the news that there is a possibility that the team may be the only heroes left if the League fails. The team seems fairly unphased, and Kaldur says that they will be ready.

The attack of this alien force seems to be a global issue, as the rest of the League is taken down, Tornado being last of all. The team immediately search for a way to integrate this species weapon system as it seems to be the only way to beat this threat. They find a single ship near The Fortress of Solitude, speculating that the power source could be the reason they are driven to a random spot in the Arctic. Before they go, we do get a moment for Conner which entangles about three different emotions at once with the lines: "I guess there are several things I guess I will never know about Superman; you know, now". This entales the them of Conner's journey in season one, being that he wants to be Superman, but not be compared to Superman because he feels that he is unworthy to bear that name, yet.

Once the team takes down the ship, Me'gan tries to integrate the weapon into the bio-ship. But the weapons system takes one last shot, nearly killing Conner, but Wolf jumps in front of the shot, seemingly evaporating him. While the team, particularly Me'gan, seems to be shaken, Conner insist on staying on target for the mission to be successful. There is not much time to do anything before two more ships come in for an aerial assault. The bio-ship has not had enough time to integrate the weapons system, so Artemis gives the team time to get inside the ship; this makes sense considering she is the only member who has a long-range weapon. This also shows that she has a deep connection with this team, as in comparison as most anyone in that situation knowing what the ships could do; most would turn and run and let people fend for themselves. In some ways there is an understanding of that choice as Artemis is only human in a group of mostly super-humans. But some could see that Artemis has grown from 'Home Front' where she was reticent to take on a few androids, and that was with Dick. In that way, one could say that she has conquered her fear or, to quote 'Malcom Merlin' from 'Arrow', that she "Knows in your heart what you are fighting for". Unfortunately that change may have been for nothing as one of the ships takes a shot at her and kills her by evaporation.

The team starts to break, Me'gan being the first followed by Wally in full rage. While the discussion for his overreaction will be covered in more detail in 'Disordered'; but the raw emotion we get from Wally in his anger, regret, and denial will be the main crux for the rest of the episode and becomes the extension of his character arc during this season, after questions of faith are brought of in 'Denial'.

Once the team gets away, while the team is distraught, Kaldur is the rock for this team. Kaldur says that they need to let the people know that they have not been abandoned, and make sure Artemis' sacrifice was not in vain.

This is the end of part one, some might be confused by this as Artemis does not really appear for the rest of the episode; but her presence is the driving force for the whole episode. Hope you guys are still enjoying my thoughts on this character. I am trying to keep these fairly spaced out as I want to keep this as a fun project, never a chore. Anyway, thanks to all who read this. I will be back for the second half of 'Failsafe'.
