"I Guess I Gotta Try."

Alright guys, getting back to Diana's journey. It's a single scene, but definitely a scene that at the very least shows the foundation for Diana and Steve's relationship. Getting ahead myself though, let's continue the journey properly with Diana's conversation with Steve.

Before Diana gets to talk to Steve, she sees the physician to inspect her wounds, but comes to find that the bullet shot is healed completely. A nice hint is that the physician(Epione) remarks that it's strange. This proves that Amazons don't heal quickly, at least not to that degree. They may be immortal, but they still have to recover from wounds like the rest of mankind. So it is further proof that Diana is different to some degree from a normal Amazon.

The first thing that Diana asks once she talks to Steve is if he's a typical example of his sex? Sure it's a joke, but this also seems like a genuine question she would ask as she's never had contact with men. It's also a test to see if mankind is worth risking everything for as she has to be juggling that whole argument in her mind, otherwise she wouldn't go to Steve in the first place.

The next question is a little more of a fish out of water question in asking what a watch is, but again it makes sense because the Amazons don't have technology in the same way as it's more incorporated into nature; this is shown even in the same scene with the water which Steve takes a bath in. The fact that having something to tell time is foreign to her shows even more of what the Amazon culture is like. When Steve list off the thing to fill time with: Eat, sleep, work, wake up, she wonders why she let's this little thing tell him what to do. Sure there's sunrise and sunset as it's still a part of the world, but dictating what you fill your life with and the preoccupation of doing certain things at certain times is clearly not an important detail in Amazon culture.Clearly there are: meals, training and clearly time to rest, but it's not nearly as important as it is in western culture.

After getting more questions, even after the interrogation he got earlier, it's reasonable for Steve to ask Diana a few questions. He ask reasonably normal questions such as: Where are we? Who are you people? Why is the water weird? Why can they speak English so well? How come you don't know what a watch is? She answers with the easiest question to tie into another with the fact they speak hundreds of languages. Claiming they are the bridge to a greater understanding between all men. This not only shows what they fill there time with, but are they naturally born with that ability or are they natural linguist? Hard to say as they practice with combat so much, but later it's revealed they have a large library and of course it's already shown that it's culturally diverse as a race.

They both give each other there gratitude for the life saving each other gave to the other before Steve asks if she's there to let him go? Diana tells that she not only asked for them to let him go but also join him. He already gets her readiness to do anything immediately as he gets the answer to who they are, the Amazons. He gives this look that he clearly knows enough about Greek mythology to recognize the name, but this state of disbelief is characteristic throughout most of the film as he cannot believe that so many stories of the supernatural are true, at least not fully.

There is a nice parallel between Diana and Steve with there parents, as she says that her mother is not allowing her to go, and Steve says that his father told him that if there is something wrong in the world you can either do something or nothing. Just the difference of action or inaction through force and choice is clear as the film goes on, but even here it's an important note, as Diana clearly tries to strike a balance between the two perspectives throughout the rest of the film.

Before that even happens though, Steve defends Hippolyta as he knows what war is like and understands her perspective. Diana however gives a look that this was an answer she was not expecting as they seemed to agreeing on most things up to that point. Then she asks the question of why he wants to go back? Steve in response, delivers one of if not my favorite lines in the movie. "I don't think want is the word". "I guess I gotta try". That and the following lines given from his father are one the lines of dialogue that really impacted me in the film. Doesn't matter if what you do ends up being of little consequence to the end result or a large part, shouldn't stop me or anyone from trying because we can just never know from our perspective.

I thought that was a nice place to end for now. Next time we get into Diana's acquisition of her iconic equipment and maybe the departure from Themyscira(we'll see). Thanks for reading guys and stick around for another step in Diana's journey.
