"You Should Be Ashamed."
So..yeah if you have been following along in release time, you probably noticed I haven't posted anything in a while. I've been meaning to get back to this but several things have been drawing my attention away from this. So I will not be promising releases of content weekly or bi-weekly from here on out, though I would like to be doing that I cannot promise that anymore, I will also be dropping my blog on Rogue(if you haven't been reading that, this doesn't affect you at all), at least for the time being. I would just like to focus on Wonder Woman for a while. While I will certainly not be finishing the movie before the end of the year, maybe I will get it finished before 'Wonder Woman 84'. Enough with the house-cleaning, let's get back to Diana as she enters this war council.
Once Steve is given the chance to reveal what he has learned, he and Diana come into the war council, but the generals hit a snag when the plans from Ludendorf are written in two different languages, not even cryptography is able to figure out which two yet, but Diana recognizes the two languages immediately and is surprised when no one in the room knew it. Which again gives more insights about Themysciran culture and a normal conversation there could involve two different languages without even a second thought. Why Diana is surprised at this may not be only due to that fact, but also the fact that none of these people know enough of the language of another to connect in some way and open up a chance for peace. Discovering that mankind does not really care about learning about each other(a clear contrast to Themyscira which is the only reason they exist really), just content to stay with their own crowd and beliefs.
A general ,that can only be assumed as the head of this meeting, seems to be threatened by the fact that Diana knows these languages and tries to force her out; thankfully the general that was trying to shove her out of the first meeting with Patrick, seems to be more willing to let her help as he defends her using this logic. Which does show her influence over people in just a short amount of time or maybe he just has come to respect her because of what she can do, not necessarily because of her character.
The main general relents and Diana states that the journal contains a formula for a new type of mustard gas. This shows that she not only has a broad understanding of languages, but enough scientific expertise and mathematical skills to interpret a formula that has not even been created. Just think of what the Amazons that actually study the scientific field would be able to do as presumably Diana was much more focused on her combat abilities.
Once the plans are stated to be released on the front, Steve tries desperately to convince them to burn the factory to the ground. This plea is dismissed immediately as they decide that they cannot risk sending troops to German territories while trying to negotiate peace. Though Steve responds with the fact that if it's used, both sides will suffer great losses, and the general dismisses those lives immediately; much to Diana's aggravation indicated by just a cold stare. In desperation Steve tries to last attempt is to ask them to send just him to dismantle the operation himself, again it is rejected with even Patrick stating that the priority should be to try to uphold this Armistice without any complications. Just for those who know what happens later in the film. Patrick says this is the best shot at peace, given what happens later, I'm not sure if genuinely believes that or not, it is kept in mystery, unless something comes up once I watch the scenes with him again.
After multiple attempts and being told no, Steve backs down, but Diana has heard enough and is ready to give these generals a lashing. Drawing on her fresh loss of Antiope, she states that detest them for knowingly throwing away the lives of soldiers just because they rank lower than themselves and tells them that where she comes from generals fight alongside their soldiers not behind them or at a desk. Which is a good point of how warfare has evolved or from her perspective devolved. In ancient times, while generals would be set in the back at times, they would still be involved in the battles they fought. Equal chance of death and not placing themselves above their soldiers and even possibly gaining that empathy from each other; in fact the general would have to do more as they are responsible for the whole unit and fight in the battle. Nowadays it just people behind a desk that have the higher rank. While this certainly puts value on these individuals that have worked their way up, it does seem to diminish the value of their subordinates.
She exits the room of her choice, not being forced out which shows her control over the situation and maybe even flaunting her moral high-ground, especially when she tells them they should all be ashamed. She takes some of this frustration out at Steve because he backed down, though he attempted three times, and he explains that he only did it because he knew their minds would not be changed. Before she completely goes on a spiel about how Ares will not back down, he says they were going anyway. She's shocked by this and almost more surprised at his dishonesty(showing how high value she places on it) and ask why she should believe him if it lied so convincingly just minutes ago? He grabs the Lasso and convinces her that he is telling the truth, even more so than intended reveals his fears about the situation in the fact that he knows they will die if they don't get reinforcements.
I think this is where Diana starts to understand that there are different ways to go about achieving goals, even though going against an authority is what she by taking Steve out of Themyscira. Which that may have even been inspired by Steve because of his stealing of the journal which were not his orders. So this is ingrained into his character, so it's more a question of who is inspiring whom after this point.
Thanks for reading guys.
