"Ah Stole her Life."

Hey guys, back after a short hiatus. Not wanting to lose energy for this project so I'm only doing them when I have motivation to do so. With that said, coming back with an issue that is partly a recap of several things, but still an issue well worth analyzing. No time to waste, so let's delve into 'Uncanny X-Men' #182.

The first thing that we see of Rogue is that she is flying home. Returning from the Marvel 'Secret Wars' storyline. In this we see that she is(from her own mouth) enjoying the feeling and freedom of flying through the sky. Even passing a plane and having fun with the pilots by flying in front of it and giving all of them a scare.

All this does show a shift from her earlier stories where she is very solemn and reserved, not really enjoying her time with this new team. Understandable as it is, trying to prove her worth to the rest of the team, it wouldn't make sense having a positive personality when everyone is beating her down. At least not with her own mental and emotional issues that are already imbedded in her personality. So it's a moment of serenity taken that is needed before another traumatizing event, about to take place.

As Rogue returns to the mansion there is a lot of recap from all the titles and storylines that were going on at the time, but it's not applicable to the character so I won't comment on them at the moment.

Going through the house, she checks the answering machine and finds a call from a Shield agent named Michael Rossi, to which she takes off immediately knowing that he is in trouble. Strangely enough she recognizes the voice, but since we are just getting certain details about her history, it doesn't seem that odd as it could be a part of her past that may be revealed now.

After a small passage of time, Rogue comes to the Helicarrier that holds Michael, she again knows details about the ship and design. Knowing where to hit, what destroying a certain console with do to the ship and such. Again.. could be a part of her past on missions where she just attacks random Shield forces with the Brotherhood. The fact that she remembers all the specifics though is a little bizarre.

Though Rogue plows through the other Shield agents with strategy that is as efficient as a soldier, she just barely makes it before Michael is about to be shot by another agent. She makes quick work of him, but no before Michael has been injured, severely.

The hints become explicit when she starts calling Michael Ace, taking care of him as he took care of her, and calling him lover. Something is definitely unsettling, but it's fairly clear at this point what the answer is, but not yet stated, which is nice as it follows what the character knows about the situation herself.

She makes quick work of some fighter jets trying to shoot her down, but after she damages one, the other cannot pick her up on the radar because she is too low and small to be detected and returns to base.

Once she lands back at home, it's solidified when her home is located in Massachusetts with a family house that she seems to know everything about. She lays him on the bed and begins to think about what she should do when the other personality starts to get a hold when she thinks that "I don't belong in this house". The last thought being dismissed in an instant and reassures herself that she is home and goes off to make a homemade soup for Michael.

Michael wakes with his memories jostled for a moment when Rogue returns with the soup as he starts to recount that he only knows her from what Xavier has told him. What will be seen in a moment is that Xavier clearly omitted some information for obvious reasons, but he did mention that she's from the deep south which gives him the knowledge to understand that something is wrong when she has a Boston accent.

That was only the beginning of the confusion as he continues to ask about the recipe for the soup he knows is unique, her knowing the nickname Ace, and first-hand knowledge about a mission he and her took to Berlin. There is no reason to doubt her from reaction as she seems to be giving and accurate and sincere answers, except for the fact that he knows it's not her as they just met when she rescued him.

The final snap is fulfilled when she answers his question of when they first met and her answer is when she was eighteen, eight years ago, then suddenly realizes that she is eighteen now.

The real memories start flowing back: knowing she doesn't have a real family before Mystique, no scars on her hand that he's seen in the past, different hair color, and even switching accents from word to word.

At last Michael says she needs to stop pretending to be Carol Danvers, which sends her outside to experience another flood of Carol Danvers memories. Michael comes out when he hears her scream though he knows there is no one else out there so it cannot be an attack.

In this moment she reveals everything that happened with her absorption of Carol's powers and states that she stole her life; though she regrets it now more than ever.

This is not enough for Michael though as he slaps her in a rage(and probable frustration) and says that he wishes he could kill her. Rogue whispers that she agrees with him. Now may be the first time she has had to live with the consequences of her powers since Charles is not around at the moment to help with her mental barriers.

Before it ends, Rogue is placed on a hit-list by Nick Fury for attempting murder of the agent she knocked out in the beginning.

That's all for this one guys. It was tricky to not make this at least two parts, there is certainly enough for two parts here, but since I've been on a short hiatus and there is a ton of recap in this issue, I just decided to make it one that is slightly longer than the usual length that I try to keep these. I will return with Uncanny X-Men #183. Till then, thank you for reading.
