"...Please, Allow Me."

Sorry it's been so long since my last blog. These last two episodes are not very Artemis heavy so I've not had much motivation to get to this quickly. I know I said most of the episodes after 'Alpha Male' would consist of two parts or more per episode. I suppose I just forgot about these episodes; which definitely have mandatory character progression for Artemis, but is not much in terms of time on screen. With that being said, let's search for the growth in 'Misplaced' and 'Coldhearted'.

So the first scene we have with Artemis in Misplaced is her talking to Zatanna; asking if she was thinking about joining the team. This is interesting that Artemis is asking Zatanna after the previous episode, where there had to have been at least a little conversation about what they had just experienced with 'Harm'. Although there is no indication that Artemis revealed anything about her family history to Zatanna, but we do know from the scene near the end of 'Secret' that she trusted her enough to nearly reveal her past to her. So Artemis asking if Zatanna wanted to join the team is almost saying that if she joined the team, she might be willing to divulge the information to her first. Zatanna answers that she would love to join, but it's difficult with her dad not wanting her to join. Which this episode is a great growth for Zatanna, but that will be saved when I get to her files sometime in the future. Once Zatanna mentions those words, Zatara and Bruce disappear from the room, as all adults around the world seem to vanish.

As the team is rallying children to a school gym, we get a bit with Artemis singing to children. It is a nice in-joke for people who have noticed the music of ABC's and the songs that share the similar music. Aside from that it does show that Artemis can do well with children; showing that while she was not raised in a normal home, by any stretch of the imagination, she is mentally and emotionally healthy enough to know what children need to comfort them. Artemis does see that Wally handles children well also, which may give her something else to solidify her love of him.

The final scene of Misplaced Artemis is involved in is after Zatara offers himself to take the identity of Dr. Fate, sacrificing himself for his daughter. It's not focused on, or even mentioned, but one could assume that Artemis has to see this and has to feel a little depressed knowing that her father would not sacrifice himself for her if they were in a similar situation. This could help Artemis and Zatanna's along as Artemis may be hoping that some of Zatanna's upbringing with her father can help her understand what a good male figure should be; and Zatanna can get an understanding of what having a mother figure around is like, which is an advantage not spoken of much in this series about how important a mother is to a girl during the teenage years.

The only scene in Coldhearted with Artemis is the real start of her and Wally's relationship. The scene is during Wally's sixteenth birthday party where Wally, in his womanizing attitude, starts hitting on Me'gan for his birthday wish. Artemis' facial reactions are all one needs to understand that she has accepted that she wants a relationship with Wally. Both the reaction to Wally's attempt to hit on Me'gan and Me'gan's polite blow off show her attitude perfectly. Dick and Zatanna are debating whether they should tell Wally that Me'gan and Conner are dating, since he is the only one who hasn't picked up on that point yet. Artemis readily volunteers to tell Wally herself about Me'gan and Conners' situation. With that whisper in Wally's ear(which is thankfully not said in dialogue), one can assume that he has accepted that he wants to start this relationship with Artemis. Though one can argue that until the end of the episode where Wally understands the importance of missions of life over glory, can anyone assume that he willingly wants the relationship; and is ready in maturity to be the male figure Artemis would need.

That's all for this one guys. These two episodes are surprisingly dense with character development and growth for Artemis, again with very little screen time. But next time is a at least a two part blog for the episode 'Insecurity', so stay tuned. Thanks for reading guys.
