Alright guys, welcome back as we go into the penultimate episode of the series(as of this posting date). Not sure if I'm going to make 'Summit' a single or dual part blog, but we'll see. Hopefully I can finish this series before Christmas but life gets in the way of this particular hobby most of the time. With all the updating said, let's gather into the 'Summit'.
From Artemis' perspective, for this first half of the episode she doesn't do much outside of standing next to Slade. There is a slight bit of dialogue to Kaldur before the meeting begins that she doesn't know if this will work, but that is understandable considering how many mistakes have been made during this entire mission.
Considering that it has been nearly a month since Jade and Crusher attacked Manta's submarine and Me'gan has escaped; there has been plenty of time for Artemis and Kaldur to get the specifics of the rest of the plan in order. Though, to be fair, once they learn about the public opinion about the Reach diminishing, they must know that the completion of this mission is not far away.
As the meetings' participants grow more and more intense, Artemis and Slade start to go to work, protecting the Light. Despite the confrontation not lasting very long, Artemis takes energy shot to protect Ra's Al Ghul. Artemis apologizes, blending into the role of nearly a member of the League of Shadows, by calling him Great One; Ra's thanks her and lets her go on but not before he notices the charm necklace. How he knows about anything about magical items is unclear. One could assume since he's been around so long, and considering the number of enemies he has made, Ra's would have to be familiar with people trained in the mystic arts as he later mentions Dr. Fate and Zatanna.
The fighting stops once Kaldur tries to get them all to calm down and be reasonable. While the Reach ambassador is trying to convince the Light that public opinion can be swayed once again, but Ra's is focused on trying to learn who could be posing as Tigris. Once Ra's stops in front of her, the entire crowd goes silent, as he rips off the Necklace revealing Artemis' real face.
It does not take long for the Light and the Reach to figure out how Artemis could still be alive; linking Kaldur as the primary factor. The ambassador tells Black Beetle to kill them both, but he doesn't get the chance as Slade shoots both in the chest. Looking closer at the spots, someone could notice what was going on before it was explained, as the blood spots are identical to the ones used to fake Artemis' death.
Once Kaldurs' recording of what the Light's true intentions are finishes and Vandal tells the ambassador that he has the key to the War World in response to the Reach's threat to destroy the Earth; Kaldur gets up as the charade is finally over. Artemis asks for Ra's to help her up. Her line of hearing that Ra's was such a gentlemen is a good line in itself, but one has to wonder where she heard it from. Considering where Jade and Crusher are assigned in the first season, one would have to assume that her father thinks Ra's is such a gentleman; and comparatively he would seem that way. Vandal wonders how they are still alive as he just saw both of them shot, with Slade's sword at his neck; Me'gan shifts back into her normal form and says that it was just misdirection and Hollywood special effects(nice nod to her role model in season 1). Before the scene finishes, we see half the team revealed either in the shadows or disguised as League of Shadows members. Paying off the line where Vandal says that Kaldur handled security for the meeting.
I think this is good place to stop for now. There's still plenty to discuss so stay tuned for the second half of my analysis of 'Summit.
