Welcome back to the journey of Diana in the self-titled Wonder Woman movie in 2017. There's a lot to go through so let's not waste any time and get to the first chronological scene in the film.
The first thing we see of Diana as a child is her running through the streets of Themyscira and all the women saying hello to her. The first thing to mention as a point made in this scene is that while Diana is running through the streets we see no children and all the other women take time to say hello does show how growing up without any peers would be like. Someone that is the only child is the baby of the family issue to the nth degree. Protecting the only child they have ever scene and no one would really know how to parent properly as we really don't see too much of an age variance. What would someone turn out like if they were sheltered and...well I don't want to say spoiled because she's not, but has no way to know how to interact with someone that is the same age or younger than yourself; as anyone knows when one looks back at kids when one is, however old one might be and see the difference of the naivete of youth. The latter being a big issue in this film.
Diana is shown running away from someone(who is revealed to be a tutor), and runs toward a training camp. It's not exactly clear how many times she has ditched a tutor to watch training, but it seems to be often enough that she is engulfed by the warriors and joins in on the sideline with air-punches and kicks. and enjoying the violence. While there is nothing necessarily original about that; take any kid with sports, music, or any other kind of role model they would try to imitate what they are exposed to, and eventually become desensitized to the violence, much like the gladiators of Rome.
Antiope(the General at this point and may have been a long time before) seems to give her this look watching Diana throw her punches and kicks as if to say that she doesn't know what combat and war inflicts. As Diana runs away from the tutor once again, Antiope gives a relenting look that even if she doesn't want to expose Diana, it is inevitable she would be shown violence eventually and would rather her be trained to defend herself than her being exposed and not knowing what to do.
Diana continues to run until she goes off the opening of a roof and attempts to land on a ground at least two stories down until Hippolyte grabs her arm. Outside of the obvious piece that Hippolyte grabbing her arm is a nice metaphor that she will prevent Diana from achieving something she didn't know she could accomplish; regardless of consequence to herself. Putting that aside, Diana(even as a child) is shown to have a leap before you look kind of personality. Again, something that will be a major character trait developed throughout the film.
Hippolyte wants to get her back to school(who knows what that entails with what's given about Diana's knowledge later), but Diana wants to start her training. With the support of saying that Antiope thinks that she's ready. So that establishes that Antiope have a relationship outside of a birds eye view. How early Amazons train is unknown as mentioned before that Diana is the only child, but being an entire race of warriors it's fair to assume that it's fairly young; for comparison: Jedi.;
Antiope says she could start showing her some things, but Hippolyte responds by asking her of whom she's supposed to be defending herself? It's not difficult to understand why Hippolyte would want to shield a five or six year old from the outside world(what good parent doesn't want that to some degree), but if kept up for a long time, it could leave a young adult ill-prepared for the world once they leave it.
Antiope tries to make the case that an invasion could occur(which is a nice reference to history shown in 'Justice League'), but Hippolyte says that it's not needed because they have Antiope; quoted to be the greatest warrior in their history as their General. Antiope says that she hopes Diana will never have to fight, but in essence she says that she is Amazon and that cannot be avoided and it clearly has already been affected. Hippolyte wants to let her be child for a time despite Diana saying that she wants to begin; eagerly.
That's all for this one guys. Thanks for reading and I'll be back for the mythological backstory of the Amazons.
